Brio Toys were originally founded in 1884 by Ivar Bengtsson in Osby, Sweden. In 1908 Ivar’s three sons took over the company over and gave it the name “BRIO”, which is an acronym for the brothers (BR), Ivar (I) Osby (O), and it’s around this time that the first BRIO Toys were introduced. The BRIO toys in the collection here relate to their range of stacking toys, or ring toys as they are sometimes known. It’s fascinating to see how long each of the toys were in production for and this is often reflected in how difficult they are to find, or as the case may be, to afford.
